Project Wide Angle

About the project

The Kangpokpi district and Imphal West district of Manipur face social unrest due to the ongoing conflict among the tribal communities. This conflict has impacted the lives of children and women in these communities. The lack of facilities in healthcare institutions, inadequate educational resources, and low levels of parental awareness, combined with low income, are compelling factors affecting the lives of people in the society. CRY America aims to empower the members of these two districts by providing education and healthcare support to the children and women in the community

Making a difference

CRY America’s Wide Angle Social Development project works toward bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots by providing education, healthcare access, and protection to the women and children of 22 villages in Manipur. Key activities under this project include identifying irregular children and regularizing them in schools, setting up support classes, linking children with social protection programs, and conducting health camps for women and children. Another key focus of this project is parental and child counseling to help them combat societal trauma and return to a regular, peaceful, and healthy life.

Raju embraces education, inspires hope

Raju embraces education, inspires hope

The ethnic conflict in Manipur left Raju, a 9-year-old boy, and his family displaced and traumatized. Hindered by trauma and the fear of attacks, no children, including Raju, could focus on their education in the crowded relief camps. Despite the ongoing conflict, Raju had a strong desire to pursue his education.

When CRY America discovered his vulnerable situation, they worked to restore his mental well-being. Raju found solace in football, and he was provided with sports materials to revive his love for the game. Gradually, he began to express himself and participate in extracurricular activities. Through regular counseling sessions, Raju and his family opened up about their fears and the grief of losing their home. Consequently, Raju’s parents were convinced to re-enroll him in a learning center.

As a result, Raju has embraced education once more while also nurturing his love for football. His story has set a positive example, inspiring families across Manipur to heal their societal trauma and lead better lives.
