Campaign Story
About the project
There are 14 slums located around the industrial areas of Vatva and Lamba in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. These slums face significant challenges with their pre-primary, elementary and secondary education. Factors like financial constraints, lack of positive schooling environment, and parental awareness has led to a high number of secondary school dropouts.
Making a difference
CRY America’s Project Direct Intervention in Ahmedabad works toward enrolling 3-6 year old children in school by forming and strengthening children’s collectives, training School Management Committees (SMCs), and promoting preschool attendance. The project also organizes vocational training sessions and counselling sessions for girls to avail open school education facility.
The way forward
● Track and ensure enrolment of 73 children of age 3-5 years at the anganwadi centers
● Track all the 270 dropout children (6-18yrs) and re-enroll them in schools with support class facilities
● 18 members of the SMCs from 4 schools to receive training for enhancing their skills on developing school plans
● 388 members from 24 children’s collectives will be trained on improving issues related to education, sanitation and transport facilities
