About the project
In the Kotra block of Udaipur, the quality of education for tribal children is severely compromised due to inadequate teaching staff and poor school infrastructure, often resulting in high dropout rates. The retention of teachers in primary schools remains a major challenge because of the area’s remoteness, further contributing to the decline in educational quality.
Making a difference
CRY America’s Project KAS works to facilitate access to quality education by collaborating with School Management Committees (SMCs), government officials, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), while also improving school infrastructure to encourage student retention. Key activities under this project include identifying and mainstreaming dropout and out-of-school children, including child laborers, into the formal education system, conducting remedial classes to bridge learning gaps, and linking children to relevant educational programs. In addition, the project focuses on forming Children’s Collectives to raise awareness in the community about issues like child labor and child marriage.
The way forward
● Analyze teaching quality and school infrastructure gaps in 8 schools
● Submit 10 request letters quarterly to officials addressing infrastructure development
● Conduct quarterly training workshops for SMC members on governance and accountability
● Establish School Improvement Plans (SIPs) in 13 schools within the intervention area
● Conduct capacity-building workshops for members of 5 Gram Sabhas on financial management, project planning, and implementation
● Ensure the implementation of 5 livelihood programs to provide financial assistance to families and prevent child labor practices
● Provide education scholarships to 200 students to reduce dropout rates
● Conduct vocational training programs for 100 students aged 15–18 years
